I have received alot of emails requesting info on the building technique used on my new boat. The fuselage minus hardware goes about 60 lbs even though it is longer, stronger and faster than the J14. I have had some people interested in using this construction in their J14 and JX boats. This boat has been clocked at 87 mph with winds 12 gusting to 41 mph on snowy ice...and it is such a great boat it handled and sailed extremely well in these conditions.
I have a speaker coming in to Alexandria, MN (Arrowwood) from San Diego on March 11. He'd like to stay over and try some iceboating. Dude is an experienced sailor and is intriqued by us northerners and this activity. Is there anybody around who'd be up for introducing a true 'character' to the sport? He's flying into/out of Fargo but would consider the Twin Cities if it would help. I'd be available to help/watch/push/whatever. Contact me at dave.sornsin@ulteig.com or 701-371-0643. Thanks! Dave
Am wondering why there are no cables from bow to far ends of runner board ends? (for strength; not for adjusting but guess could be used for fine truing).
Could it be for safety in case of hitting an ice ridge...ie does one want the runner board to detach?

Crazy Canadians but very informative web video on how to survive falling in the ice!
Getting ready to build my first plank, having obtained 'some' ash, which has been planed to 5/16" and routed/sawn straight, although pieces are questionable in my estimation (knots).
My existing hull setup uses a 6-1/2" wide plank. Also have a nice piece of rough sawn walnut I want to incorporate. Thoughts/suggestions? Should I change hull to accept 7-1/2" plank? Existing plank is extremely stiff, built approx. 1968. Hull weight is heavy at 85# w/o plank, etc., Skipper is 170#.
I don't have Excel for the plank spreadsheet from IDNIYRA, and don't know a modulus from an ice hole...
Thanks for any and all help, except promoters of Texas Holdem!
I am visiting the Twin Cities area this Thursday - Sunday and am wondering if there is anywhere / anyone who teaches Ice Boating. I am a very experienced sailor and windsurfer, if that matters at all. Would love to try out your sport! Please email me at tomvhall@hotmail.com or call my cell 206-396-2731 if you have any ideas for me.
Thanks, and sail fast.

I recently ran across the plans to build a Scooter somewhere on the web. I believe it was through a link to one of the iceboating web pages. However, I cannot find it again. If someone knows of this link, please let me know.
Also, if anyone has experience sailing this craft, could you please tell me about it.
I am new to iceboating and I would like some info pertaining to adjusting the mast rake according to different wind conditions. I have an older wood mast and I would also like to know if this mast should be more virtical then a whip or more set back.
Thanks for your help.
I just bought an older DN with dull rusty runners. Any idea where I can get them sharpened? I live in Plymouth near Lake Minnetonka(West of Minneapolis).
JD Thanks for a good regatta as usual. Here is a link to a company I bought a drive wheel and Idler wheel from for a new sander .Nice turned aluminum. http://beaumontmetalworks.com/index.html
Also I found a company in MN a while back that made the idler tensioner
The ICKLER Co. Or Ikler ?

Where can I obtain plans to build a side car for a DN?

A few of us in Lansing are looking to build a small boat trailer suitable for behind a car/mid size suv. Something to hold 3 to 4 boats...any tips and suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks,
David
I've heard talk of using a spare chock to align all runners the same by shimming. I've built a laser runner edge sight, and have a pair of laser levels for chock alignment, but I'm not sure about what shims are constructed of, etc.
Are there optimum bend characteristics for the NITE mast and plank that are avaiable? Ex-this distance between two sawhorses and this much weight equals this much sag...??? How about the springboard?
