Duluth harbor?

Is anybody up near Duluth and can report the condition of the ice in the harbor?

I have a second hand report that it's 'perfect' and i've always wanted to go sailing up there.

Photos from the DN NAs?

Hi,

I'm thinking of writing a short piece for Sailing World magazine's "Finish Line" section. I'm hoping that someone out there got something that fits the description on in the SW guidelines: "Finish Line: One shot per story. Exciting event action preferred."

Please let me know if you have anything that might be appropriate. If it's digital, they are looking for pretty high-resolution files (4x6 inch @ 300 DPI = 1200x1800 pixels min.).

Klicker

How do I learn more about the Klicker Ice Surfer?
Who made/makes it? Great looking board. I'm interested in knowing more about how it steers.

Ice cond.???

I have a kitchen pass this sunday to do whatever I want. Yippee!!
Is there any sailable ice within a couple of hours of the Minnetonka area?? I have been in S/W Mn and haven't seen any good ice w/o snow on it. Any chance Lake Pepin is in still great sailing Cond? Or Okoboji area?
The forecast sounds like that four letter word we all curse, and lots of it. This might be my last chance to go sailin this winter {wkd. classes for work through March} so If anyone knows of some sailable ice for this weekend I'd love to know where.

Olympic ice sailing?

I have been watching and enjoying the winter Olympics in Torino for
the past week, and I got to thinking yesterday: why isn't ice sailing
an Olympic sport? It is no more eccentric than the myriad other
winter sports that seem like the result of a drunken bet (okay, first set
your forhead on the end of a ski pole and run around it fifteen times,
then ski down this hill and shoot at some stuff with a rifle...).

Has anyone ever looked into this? There must be a process for getting
the sport recognised by the International Olympic Committee.
Fortunately, the sport of sailing enjoys medal opportunities during

Elk Lake, MI

Elk Lake has finally frozen. It made it thru the day and should build ice tonight. We are hoping to sail mid to late week.

Port or Starboard

I hear sailors complaining that when the heat is on in a race they sometimes have trouble remembering if they are on port or starboard. I have an easy cure for the problem. I have a 3 ft. strip of green tape on the right side of my boom and an orange strip on the left side. The tape is always in view and it keeps me aware of the tack I'm on. I hope the helps.

i've posted some pictures of the NA's

Canadian Championship Regatta Report

I just got off the phone with Glenn Betzoldt in Pepin. He reports that about 30 boats stayed in Pepin for the Canadian Championship Thursday. The wind was light and flukey shifting around from the SE, S, and W at various times. He and Merili were the first to reach the race area in the morning and the ice was still hard enough to sail on. However, as time wore on and the temperature took it's toll, it got softer and stickier. By the time the time the course was set and the first race got started, the wind wasn't stong enough to keep pepole moving. In the end there were no races.

Glenn is still in Pepin. He reports that at about 10:00am today (Friday) it was sleeting. There were 12 boats still at the landing. Depending on the weather they may sail some more today, or pack up and head home.

Wanted - Used/New Steering Rod Assembly

When re-assemble my Antique Roadshow (1960's Norton boat) this weekend I made a small adjustment to the Steering Rod length and crack the aluminum Steering Rod Assembly.

To say the least I don't think I want to sail with 3 large cracks in the steering rod end.

Does anyone have any extra Steering Rod Assembly they want to get rid of? I can always buy a new one from Sarns but what fun is that.
