The smart money says we will sail the DN Western Regional Championship regatta this coming weekend, January 6-7, 2018. Several sites are being considered, including Minnetonka. Keep an eye on DN North America (http://na.idniyra.org/) for details. Think Ice.

Minnetonka Ice check
Meyer and I walked to the middle of the Minnetonka Sailing area on Main Lake from Bracketts Pt on Monday. Not enough wind to sail.
Report:
A great mile square area on the main lake that we scrub raced 8 days ago on a great sheet of regatta quality ice.
14-16 inches of black ice covered by mostly 1/2 to 1” grainy snow that has been in the sun, wind and below zero temps for a week. 60% stiff drifts up to 2” high.
This sheet of ice is not Regatta Quality!
Dan Hearn should be posting on DN Forum or website by Wed evening the location. Could be Green Lake, Wi, Madison or some new candidate, unknown to me.
