Thanks

Thank you to all the competitors who drove from places far and wide. Driving to a fun regatta not really sure of what the conditions may be is a huge leap of faith in our Minnesota scouting. This year was unusual in the fact that Christina was really the only frozen body of known water in our state. We hope you were rewarded in another of JD's annual regattas and fun sailing! Different conditions to sail in with the 3" of snow that turned crust, wet, draining with puddles in the 2 days. What a great dedicated bunch of ladies and gentleman we have! Thank you JD, Jim, Deb and Loretta for your fine work.

Thanks to Loretta and Deb

And a very thankful thanks goes out to Deb and Loretta who worked so great together. It was really nice to have Deb taking down the scores and Loretta working the keyboard back in warm and dry. Thank you both very much.

Thanks all!

It was great fun to see so many friends in Ashby, MN. Thanks to all the sailors who traveled so far to make this year's GWC such a big event. We had close to 60 boats! The western and central region were well represented while the east coast boys showed up in droves. All very impressive when you consider the 24 hour drive! We had eastern sailors from Nova Scotia, Kingston, Ontario, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island and as far south as Deep Creek, Maryland. And yes, Jorge (Germany) Diderik (Netherlands) and Rickard (Sweden) came from Europe.

As always, Friday was the best day. We had a good breeze, good ice and 5 scrub races. It was darn near a perfect day. Saturday saw very warm temps, lighter air and very wet and slushy ice conditions. 30 inch insert runners sharpened to 100* ruled the day. Sunday was a bust as the wind never materialized. We were sent home at 10 am.

Kudos to JD and Jim for their efforts. Many thanks to Deb and Loretta. Tip of the helmet to Mike Miller for scouting the ice on Wednesday.

Think Ice.
