It was a dark and stormy night...

A sailor, Bismarck Dinius, after a regatta on Clear Lake, CA, jumped on an O'Day 27 for a starlight cruise with some friends... pitch black, starry skies, light breeze, what a promising night for a sail.

Gusting to about 4 mph, ghosting along, they were hit by a 375 hp 24' Baja powerboat, doing between 40 and 60 mph driven by the number two law enforcement guy in Lake County, CA, and Bismarck was sucked into the maelstrom, a perfect storm.

One of the sailors, Lynn Thornton tragically died from injuries from this collision, and temporary helmsman Bismarck Dinius was charged with Manslaughter while Captain Russel Perdock, driver of the Speeding in the Dark powerboat, unfathomably has not been charged.

Read the Story, See Dan Noyes blog: http://iteamblog.abc7news.com describing this mess. Bismarck could be most any sailor I know, but for inches it is me.

I think it's appropriate for a sailor to lend another sailor a little help when he's in peril on the water, and Bismarck Dinius sure is. Sailors around the world have been wading in on this both at SailingAnarchy.com and on Attorney General Jerry Brown's facebook site: http://www.facebook.com/jerrybrown?ref=mf

The price of a bottle of Gosling's Rum, about 20 bucks near the Wayzata Yacht Club, the fuel for making Dark and Stormy's, and beverage of legend at Iceboating's Great Western Challenge Regatta, is the perfect support I can lend to the Bismarck Dinius Defense Fund.

Innocence Project joins Dinius Defense!

Jury Selection is supposed to begin in the Bismarck Dinius Trial today... and the Northern California Innocence Project is reported by Dan Noyes of ABC 7 in SFO to be involved in the defense project, uncharacteristically, before the innocent is wrongly convicted.
