Tired of sailing junk.....

After 4+ years of tinkering around with homebrew
'iceboats' I find myself now willing to step up
to something 'real'. (Got 65 miles on my junk boat
this year in spite of some lousy ice). I'm 50 miles
north of Brainerd, so I'm not far from the 94
corridor lakes you folks like to run. Still, there
doesn't seem to be anyone like me around here - I
have to sail alone or not sail at all. So, I'm
looking for....

1. People in my general area (70-80 miles) who might
like to form a local group to sail. Anyone ???
2. A used Nite or really good DN within reasonable
driving distance from me. (I.E. not New York!)

I'm convinced the global warming trend will continue,
and soon my area will be a prime location. With 500+
lakes in my county, I know of several shallow, quick
freezing lakes that would be great to run. Any feedback
on this entire post would be appreciated.

to your comments...

1. There are people in your area who sail iceboats... but probably not many... i've heard of a couple up there, a DN in Cross Lake, some rumors of iceboats on Leech, some suspects in the Bemidji area, know of sailors west of there, e.g Detroit Lakes, Pelican Rapids, Ada, etc. ... as well as Duluth.

the easiest way to find them is post an ice report on this website, pictures help a lot, of where you plan to sail, and the curious and other iceboaters will simply just show up... in time. There are big regatta's coming up and we'll be looking for great ice to sail on... possibly in your back yard.

2. There are a number of Nites currently on the market, and some DN's (generally towards Chicago), a guy would have to be on his deathbed to consider selling an iceboat when they have ice out front, like most iceboaters in Minnesota have right now.
