5050 and I found several of these on a walking inspection of the lake...
A strand of milfoil on the ice, burrows a little heat hole, that forms a very rugged little hole with about a 4" drain hole at the bottom of this pretty large and deep little formation... we called the slimy stuff on the bottom Milf Oil.

Heppert writes, "Greetings from Minnesota. Thought you would enjoy a couple of pictures from today, 2/21 on Lake Minnetonka. We got 5 inches of snow last night, but figured I would try it anyway with a 20 MPH wind. Had an amazingly fast ride all day. By tomorrow, I'm sure all local Twin Cities lakes will be hard packed again and unsailable until meltdown."

A drive by image only. One ice house in middle of lake. One large easy to define open spot on north east side of lake. THERE COULD BE OTHER SMALLER ONES. NOT CHECKED OR SAILED IN PAST 6 DAYS. APPEARS TO BE 4-5 INCHES ICE 50% SMALL DRIFTS.
