We sailed Minnetonka today. Whole lake was great with no obstructions. Great wind. Ice was a little better on the Main Lake than the bays. Big 3 mile long reaches from Big Island to Wayzata Bay.
Sailors are checking Minnetonka and Calhoun today to assess local conditions...

Ice Reports are encouraged from larger and possibly northern lakes, Gull?, Detroit Lakes? Otter Tail?, Minnewaska?, Green?
For cruisers that want to stay close to home this weekend, the lower croix
should be amazing as there is no traffic to muck up the ice when it was soft.No Snow!
St croix beach to launch.

As of this hour it looks like Lake Pepin recieved just a trace of snow in today's storm, we should have eyes on the ice tomorrow morning early to confirm conditions. Local sailors are already planning what now promises to be an excellent weekend of sailing on Pepin.
Based on what's happened and the current radar imagery, we're hopeful the lake remains in excellent sailing condition.
Based on the forecast gusting over 35mph tomorrow, there are no plans to sail the lake on Wednesday Mar 11.

who's in? need to confirm ice there. below freezing tonight, looks like no snow/rain till sunday. 10 mph wind. one day deal. 11 am start. someone confirm ice there!!!! and post. meyer
Providing it doesn't snow muuch tonight. WE aren't suppose to get much snow and there will be wind both days. What is the plan for the weekend sailing?
It would be great if we could all be on the same part of the lake. Maybe have some fun scrub racing.
Mike Miller is out sailing today and will give us the latest ice report.
The wind is up to 10MPH and snow is coming later today, so now is the time to make some rips on the big sheet of Main lake ice. Forecast calls for SE at 10-15 rest of day.
See you out there, leaving now.
Hope we get missed by the snow event as Saturday wind sounds even stronger!
Mike
sailed monday, ice good, sailed full speed in big wind, nw corner the best to big island. should be good for the weekend. launch at harry allens. meyer
The ice on the St. Croix is awesome! There is virtually no fish traffic to rut it up due to the lack of public access. Just miles of 18+ inch thick grade 8 ice. You can set up at the Lake St. Croix public beach. Park in the lot and haul your boat about 25 yards accross the beach to the ice. My friend Kent has had his DN set up at St. Mary's Point (about 1/4mile south of the beach) for a few days now and sailed today. I set up my Nite at St. Mary's Point tonight and hope to sail till the next snow.
If you're an iceboater in Minnesota, this is your weekend.
Minnetonka has recently been sailed and judged to be acceptable for sailing...
Two DN's sailed Lake Calhoun today in Light Air, hoping for details.
The Fire on Ice Course on Phalen has been regularly sailed...
I suspect other lakes are also quite boatable, medicine lake in plymouth was driven today. there's a touch of shell ice and some healed drain holes on 24+ inches of ice. moderately heavy fishing traffic...
Wow... Who would have thought you could Ice boat on Tonka in Feb.
I took my Nite and Mike Maloney took his DN and we sailed around the whole lake today.
Conditions are Fair to Good. Where there has been a lot of car traffic and ice fishing, the conditions are fair. Pretty rough and bumpy from ruts etc. I've sailed in worse. Elsewhere is good.
I just drove around on Minnetonka from Excelsior. No standing water, the deeper puddles (one every 100 yards or so)are covered by 1/2"-3/4" of ice over 1/2" of water, the truck would break through them but I don't expect the boats will. The whole lake looks to be sailible, we will be playing hooky and setting up @ SYC.
What is going on over that way?
Is the Zamboni on nitrous or what?

For those not heading out to Michigan for the Worlds, come join the local DN class for a day of fun at Lake Phalen. The track was scouted again on Thursday and looks better than ever.
There is a N/S track and an E/W track. Wind on Saturday is predicted to be around 15-18 MPH out of WNW and around 32F.
Should be ideal conditions, similar to last Sunday's epic day during the Fire on Ice. All you need is a sharp steering runner and any DN.
