Elk Lake Iceboat Party

Our party/regatta is on for the weekend of the 17th and 18th of February. Launching will be mostly from our house, 3rd street or White Birch Lodge (all within walking distance of each other) we already have boats arriving a week early, by Monday there should be over a dozen boats with 6 days still before the party starts (doesn't include the local club sailing out of White Birch). Everything is free. There will be door prizes, trophies for Jboat and sportsman racing and food.
As of this morning we have 4-6" of hard ice. 90% clear with the other 10% being up to 1/2" deep of light fluffy stuff. The temps are low enough this week (single digits and below zero) to build alot more ice before the party. We already have trailers on the ice at our house and White Birch lodge.

Nothing on the web yet at the DN America Forum, but the hotline (248-988-0851) says it's ON.

Cheers,

And you thought Montana was too far...

From Iceboat.org:

Opti rig at Western Regional 4LIYC Ice Opti Skipper, Sheridan Hearn (US-18), age 12, will be representing the United States and the 4LIYC in the DN/Opti World Junior Championships to be held next week on Lake Rekyvos in Latvia. This is truly a historic event for US iceboating, as Sheridan will be the first US Junior to ever participate in the Junior-only World Championships. (And her Dad thinks it's pretty cool that this first participant is, in fact, a girl). The event already has 110 pre-registrants from countries all over Europe. ...

Pictures of Saturday Western Regionals

I just posted 120 pictures that Mike Bares took at the regatta.

This is probably the nicest set of pictures of a western regionals regatta that we have ever had access to.

You can click on the 'view original' and save the picture in high res so you can print it out yourself.

It's really great of him to go up and take the pictures and then let everyone have access to them.

Sorry there's no prev-next-slideshow feature, but nothing's perfect.

Western Regional Regatta > ON FOR GULL LAKE - MINNESOTA - COLD PLAY!!!

OFFICIAL NOTICE: ON Rear Commodore Isabell's Post

2007 Western Regional Regatta Hot Babe's in Brainerd, just waiting to show the fleet a good time!

The regatta site for the 2007 DN Western Region Regatta is Gull Lake, Minnesota. Although it is a little further drive than previous regattas in our region, the ice and facilities available will make for another wonderful event. Check out the website for more information. Gull Lake is a vacation destination and offers us an unparallel regatta venue! I truly hope you will make the drive and participate.

See you soon!

Mark Isabell
Western Region Commodore
