The best sailing conditions imaginable!

Nine boats were up sailing on Lake Christina on Sunday morning. It was a terrific time out sailing. It was a balmy 32degF. The ice surface was melted snow ice, but it was smooth and clear of any hazards. The breeze was fading from the wind blowing 40mph on Saturday. The first few ice-checking runs had the most breeze.
Not that there has ever been any doubt, we're looking at testing the limits of Epic once again at the Great Western Challenge Regatta of 2011.

It looks like a very favorable weather pattern... it looks like we'll find what we're looking for on Friday!

I regret to inform you that the weather has ruined all the venues we can reach in time to complete the regatta by Saturday. Our by laws require the North Americans to be complete within a week. Its a bit more complex, but that is the gist.
Therefore, the governing committee has canceled the 2011 North American Championships.

That was a great regatta. Some really good racing. With light, shifty wind and fast ice with some hazards it was really fun iceboat racing. The temps were down around, I'm not sure but 11 to 14 F.
Saturday we got in three races in the Ice Opti, Silver and Gold Fleets before the PRO called it a day. It was cold and there was some decent wind all day long. Some of the top racers were using their speed sails.
looks good for fri thru sun. missing the new snow coming. check for final confirmation in ken smith's dn site. meyer
The excitement is mounting with talk of great ice in Minnesota. Today is Tuesday.
To call this regatta on, we need boots and runners on ice Thursday morning at the latest, update to me by noon, so I can post the site. All this is so the traveling folk can get to the ice Friday. (Not the traveling folks sailing in Florida, the guys who already headed south, or the kayakers, but the iceboaters looking for one more good weekend!)
