Deb Whitehorse Honored

IDNIYRA Executive Secretary Deb Whitehorse was honored, among others, Saturday evening by Lake City Minnesota Mayor Mark Nichols when she was presented with a “Key to the City.”

Lake City has a deep and rich iceboat history and had just hosted the DN Western Region Championships, the ISA’s and the Northwestern’s over three consecutive weekends. The Mayor cited Deb’s longstanding commitment and dedication to the great sport of iceboating as the reason for her selection. Mayor Nichols presented the award during the Northwestern Regatta which was sailed on Lake Pepin.

A Christmas Miracle?!!!

I do not believe in Santa Claus but I do consider this a Christmas miracle. After all, there was no advanced warning: No phone call, no e-mail and no text message.
But, miraculously, there they were.
So, all I can do is thank the UPS driver for delivering my "lost" runners to my front door. And, a special thanks to whoever played a role in their safe return. My faith in the DN class has been restored.

Western Challange: This year was...EPIC!

Battle Lake, Minnesota. Site of the 2018 Great Western Challenge. Who could have predicted that this year’s Challenge would be…wait for it…epic!

For the first time in years, Saturday beat out Friday as the best day. Don’t get me wrong, Friday was still awesome. It was the perfect day to get back on the ice and dust off the cob webs. The 58 sailors that made the trek to northern Minnesota enjoyed medium air, a huge sheet of mostly smooth ice and more scrub races than their necks could handle.

Western Challenge

The first regatta of the season is scheduled for Friday Nov 30, 2018. Per JD, usual location will be best ice in Minnesota. We have been sailing on ice since Nov 16. Many lakes up north are now thick enough.
We now have a beautiful new freeze of Battle Lake, just north of our usual Christina near Ashby, Mn.
A number of lakes closer to Minneapolis should come thru in the next week. Very little snow predicted in our regatta locations. Time to sharpen runners and check your equipment. Watch this site or Facebook Minnesota Iceboaters for updates.

New Nite website is online
